Join Us

Undergraduate Students

We hire undergraduate students to assist with human subject data collection, data processing and analysis during the academic year and summer months.

Students can work on a volunteer basis, as hourly paid assistants, for academic credit, or as part of the Frederick Honors College.

For information about these different opportunities, please also visit:

If interested in exploring research opportunities in our lab, please complete the RST department’s online Research Interest Form at this link and mention Dr. Clive D’Souza under research faculty of interest.

Masters Students

Masters students interested in working with us can do so either for research credit, or for hourly pay between 8 and 20 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during summer months.

We welcome masters students from the health and rehabilitation disciplines (e.g., MRT, MSPO, OT), engineering (e.g., IE, BME, ME), computing (e.g., computer science, data science, geospatial statistics).

If interested in exploring research opportunities in our lab, please complete the RST department’s online Research Interest Form at this link and mention Dr. Clive D’Souza under research faculty of interest.

Promising masters students have the opportunity to continue on for a Ph.D. depending on interested and demonstrated potential for conducting independent research.

PhD Students

Our lab is currently recruiting PhD students that have an interest in one or more of the following areas: human factors / ergonomics (related to transportation, automated vehicle design, partial driving automation), rehabilitation engineering and/or assistive technology design, and developing methods that use wearable technologies and/or machine learning to measure functional mobility in laboratory and community settings.

PhD students can apply through either the PhD in Rehabilitation Science (https://www.shrs.pitt.edu/phdrs) or PhD in Industrial Engineering (https://www.engineering.pitt.edu/departments/industrial/graduate/doctoral-program/) program.

Interested students should contact Dr. Clive D’Souza directly by email (crd85@pitt.edu) along with a CV and short summary of your research interests prior to submitting their PhD application.

Post-doctoral Researchers

Our lab is presently looking to recruit an outstanding Post-doctoral Research Fellow for a one year, renewable appointment to participate in research that combines human factors engineering and assistive technology design. A PhD in engineering, rehabilitation science, computing, or related field is required. Interested individuals may contact Dr. Clive D’Souza directly by email (crd85@pitt.edu) along with a CV and short summary of your research interests.
